FUSE was a Toronto-based Canadian non-profit arts and culture periodical published by Artons Cultural Affairs Society and Publishing Inc. FUSE was one of Canada’s longest running alternative art publications. Throughout its 38 year history, the focus has been the interchange between art, media, and politics. The magazine published its final issue in Winter 2013, under the editorial direction of Gina Badger. Centerfold, an arts newsprint magazine addressing the lack of critical discourse within artist-run culture, was founded in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1976. In 1978, Centerfoldrelocated to Toronto, and in 1980, the name of the magazine changed to FUSE. The focus of the magazine shifted from “an interdisciplinary artists” magazine to “a cultural news magazine”. The publishers of FUSE incorporated as Artons Cultural Affairs Society and Publishing in 1984.Centerfold Founding editors: Clive Robertson and Marcella Bienvenue. Continued as FUSE after the November 1979 issue: Founding editors: Clive Robertson, Lisa Steele and Tom Sherman.
Fuse was founded as a platform to showcase and promote the best photographers, models, and designers from around the world, whose work celebrates the beauty of the female form by blending the artistic and the erotic. With Fuse, we go back to a classic principle of photography, where enticing photos are high in quality and concept, meant to last forever and be seen by all, rather than something to hide or be ashamed of taking or looking at.
Whether the context is alternative, vanilla, or anything in-between, a thoughtful photo of a beautiful lady is timeless; someone deemed this image picture-perfect, a flash of time worth capturing. Through the lens of the photographer, we can see these women preserved as they are in that moment, beautiful and sexy forever.
